​Beyond the Veil

Girl, you were given a veil when you entered this world
And were told to wear it always
It became a comfort and shield
Changing your view as you looked out from it
But do not be afraid to lift it away
It doesn’t protect you
It protects your eyes from seeing clearly
You are strong without it
And will grow fiercer free from it
Do not be afraid to take your first steps alone
It is how we all enter this world
And how we will all leave it
