Sometimes you just need to take some pictures, and thank goodness for kids who can be bribed! I promised him some fruit snacks and a transformer, and got some adorably cute photos out of the deal :) Love you Mis!

My parents came for a visit this summer, and my boys were very excited to spend time with them! Ever since I was a little girl, I remember my dad wearing cowboy boots. Those were his dress shoes. So when they arrived at our house, it was no surprise that my dad was wearing his cowboys boots with a white shirt and tie. And it was also not a surprise that my boys wanted their own pairs. My mom thought it was an excellent idea, so off to the store we went and got them each their own pair. Then, because Papa wears rugged Wrangler shirts, they sent the boys a couple shirts of their own. I decided this was a perfect opportunity to have a little fun, and found them each a cowboy hat to go along with their new midwest appropriate attire. And then, in true photographer fashion, I dressed them up, took them to the park and had them pose :)
While I'm not a money making professional anymore, I like to think of myself as a hobbyist professional. Which is code for poor artist who makes no money! Haha but I still love taking pictures, and I'm always up for a fun collaboration with some of my very favorite artists! A couple weeks ago I got together with Angie and Sydney, and met Jess Mart, a makeup artist, to create some photographic art. The original idea was to have extreme avant garde looks, but time and money are not always on our side. Although, we still sure did great with what we had I think! And what a bonus to find some rogue grapes growing in the woods!
And it paid off! We have never had a set go unpublished, and this set was no exception. It has been featured in Duende Magazine for their September 2017 issue. We are very excited to have been included :) Stay tuned for images from our latest shoot, being published later this month and next! In 2005, my dad gave me my first camera. It was a little Olympus point and shoot, but it was amazing and I was super excited to have it! After my first son was born, my dad gave me his old Nikon film camera, an F4. I couldn't figure it out, so he gave me his other Nikon 2020 to practice on until I was ready for the professional grade. Once I'd gotten comfortable with film, and spent gobs of m only developing it at our local pharmacy, my dad upgraded and gave me his old Nikon D200, my very first real DSLR camera. I went nuts! I could take as many pictures as I wanted and didn't have to worry about is I got the shot the first time. It allowed me to practice and experiment and eventually master exposure. In 2014, after we had moved to Iowa the year before, and I felt sufficiently practiced, I started Arastan Photography. I created the name from my two children, Tristan and Aramis. It was fun meeting new people, trying new things, getting published in magazines, and collaborating with fellow creative artists. Sadly, I've recently had to close as a professional business because the market is just too saturated for an independent to survive in. Photography will always have a special place in my heart. I remember going on l ing drives with my dad just to get the perfect picture of a mountain stream or a sunset. Like him, it's in my blood. I will always be taking pictures at looking at life through the lens. But for now, it is going to be for me and what I want. I'm sad that Arastan had to close, it was like my baby. I grew it up from nothing. And I will always remember my time as a professional photographer fondly. But I am excited to move on to the next chapter of my life!
*from Facebook* It is with a heavy heart that I announce the closing of Arastan Photography. I want to thank all of my wonderful clients who made this journey such an amazing experience. There is nothing I loved more as a photographer than to see the smiles on children faces, the love of families, and the joy of seeing your photos come to life. I wish you all the best, thank you for allowing me to capture those moments that matter most! For all of the images, the background was completely constructed! Clouds, beach, grass, sun, sky, waves, open water, they are all separate images that were composited together to create a magical scene. It's a bit of process, but it is also a lot of fun and keeps me busy! *wedding couples that say "edited by" were originally taken by another photographer, and a request was made of me to edit them*
Sometimes it's fun to see where a picture begins before you see how it is finished :)
